Determinants of Social Participation Activities Among the Elderly Persons

Abstract
The purposes of this study were to examine major determinants of social participation activities among the elderly persons, and to analysis some relationships among social participation, socio-demographic factors, health factors, and economical factors. This study analyzed 4040 elderly persons over 65 out of 2008 Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA). The descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and logistic regression were used for the data analysis in this study. Socio-demographic model, health model, economical model and total model were analysed in logistic regression in this study. This study found that the respondent`s sex, ages, education, subjective health status, IADL, CES-D10, regular exercises, subjective economic status, and monthly allowances were major determinants of social participation activities among the elderly persons. Finally, some implications and suggestions were discussed for developing more effective approaches of social participation activities among the elderly persons, the major roles of social worker, and improvement of public policies regarding social participation for the elderly persons.
